The Kernel of the Mission

Micah 6:8 is the central text for Noble Road Presbyterian Church.  Jesus encapsulated the authority of the Law and the Prophets into one command: You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your being, and with all your mind. … You must also love your neighbor as you love yourself. (Mt. 22:37-39 CEB)  Okay, so that’s two commands, and maybe three if you include the instruction to love yourself!  At the heart of it is love!  Or, as Micah says, faithful love.  Out of love for God and neighbor and self flows the mission to advocate for justice and peace for the planet entrusted to our care.  The thing is, we are not required to live this mission alone.  Noble Road has discovered the great value in collaborating with people who and organizations which share a similar calling.  Thus, involvement with partnerships is a major way we live out our mission.  As stated above, we are always interested in partnering with communities of peace, justice, and inclusion.  If you are being nudged to share a vision of collaboration with us, please contact the church office.  We trust the Holy Spirit continues to be at work!  216.382.0660.

Current Partnerships Include:

  • Dougbe River Presbyterian School of Liberia:  The vision of NRPC elder Isaac Monah, the DRPSL is a coeducational school in rural Liberia, West Africa.  Opening in November 2012, the school serves children in 12 villages who have not had previous opportunity for education near their homes.  To learn more about the school visit drpsl.com or the DPRSL Facebook page.
    • The Dougbe River School has taught the church the critical nature of partnering.  It has opened despite not yet receiving large donations from foundations.  Children are learning to read, write, add, and subtract because of individuals, churches, schools, non-governmental and denominational organizations who saw the need of the community and the potential for empowerment by investing in this school.
  • FourChurch:  In recent years, our congregation has shared in fellowship with Hope, Grace, and Bethlehem Lutheran Churches.  Each community of faith is actively engaged in ministry in Cleveland Heights, and in the NE Ohio region.   We typically share in worship and programming during the holy seasons of the church year – primarily the seasons leading up to Christmas and Easter: Advent and Lent, respectively.   However, we discovered that there is a lot more we can do together if we intentionally put our minds to it.  Thus, FourChurch was born!  It is a burgeoning initiative.  FourChurch initiatives include:
    • Hosting the Cleveland Heights Community Farmer’s Market during the summer of 2013.  Every Friday afternoon from 2-7PM from 5/31 through 10/4.  Held at Bethlehem Lutheran Church (see link above).
    • Grace community garden
    • Picnics in the park
  • Family Promise:  A small group within the church helps the organization Family Promise several times a year. One branch of Family Promise houses homeless families in churches, moving them from one church to another at weekly intervals. We provide dinner and evening activities for one night of the week when the families are being housed at a nearby church. The other branch of Family Promise runs a shelter where homeless families can stay for several months. When they leave, they take most of the items in their apartment (except the furniture) with them. Our group brings in new linens and pillows for the beds, towels and toiletries for the bathroom, dishes and pots and pans for the kitchen, as well as cleaning and laundry supplies, toys and books, and other amenities to make the apartment warm and inviting for the next occupants.
  • Presbyterian Women:  Noble Road has an active Presbyterian Women group, which meets at a member’s home or at the church at 6:30PM the second Monday of the month. This group does Bible study, book discussions, service projects and social activities.
